The Maryland Initiative for Theatre and Science

Active Cultures, the Vernacular Theatre of Maryland, announces its Maryland Initiative for Theatre and Science. This initiative creates science-focused theatre works targeted at Maryland’s large community of scientists and their families.
The initiative will be a three-pronged effort: new works reflecting science culture will be commissioned and developed by the theatre; area scientists will be recruited to consult with the theatre and provide a bridge between the artistic community and the scientific community; and the theatre will host a series of panels and discussions exploring science culture and everyday life. Dr. Karen Woodson, a cancer biologist and epidemiologist formerly with NIH and Johns Hopkins, is an advisor to the project.
This year, as part of the initiative, Active Cultures will develop and produce two plays which explore the lives of scientists—PETRI DISH CIRCUS and THE WHITE HYACINTH LETTER.
